Can “crowns” flare up?

Question by AMR2430: Can “crowns” flare up?
Some of my teeth, namely the two teeth that have crowns on them, have been aching slightly since last Thursday night. It’s not severe pain by any means, but I can definitely feel the discomfort. This “aching” came on at the same exact time, which I thought was weird. Some of my other teeth have ached off and on since Thursday night as well, but the two with crowns ache the most.

It just seems strange this popped up all of a sudden. One crown is from 2 years ago and the other from last year.

The only thing I’ve done in the last week or two that’s been different is go to the chiropractor, but I don’t think that would have anything to do with it. I’ve used teeth whitening trays in the past, but I haven’t used them for about 6-7 months.

I know the obvious answer is to go to the dentist, but based on the way my dental insurance works, I can’t go again until June (and have them pay anything).

Any dentists out there have any idea as to what I may be experiencing?

Are the crowns on the upper back teeth? You may have some sinus issues that could be affecting the teeth. Also there may be something caught under the gums between them. Floss the area a few times a day and see if that helps. Otherwise you may have to wait until you can see a dentist and they are x-rayed. Good luck.

One Response to “Can “crowns” flare up?”

  1. Josh says:

The pain may be aggravated by chewing or by thermal foods and liquids which are cold or hot. A thorough oral examination, proper tooth testing and evaluation, along with appropriate dental x-rays, can help determine the cause. What we want to know is whether the toothache is really coming from a tooth or somewhere else.
