Dental Implants Abroad

Dental Implants Abroad are really attractive for dental patients in the UK. Are they sensible though?

As a leading dental practice in Romania, HappyDental, we get a lot of enquiries from patients who are interested in having dental implants ( implant dentar ) done as our price for a dental implant is €500.00 for a completed dental implant.

In the UK the average cost per dental implant is in the region of £1750.00 which is a lot more expensive than what we charge for exactly the same dental implant ( implanturi dentare ) from the same dental manufacturer. So its obvious that patients should be coming to HappyDental to get the work done.

Well NO! its not obvious to me because there are possible problems that can arise when doing a dental surgery involving the placing of an implant. First of all it takes more than one visit to complete the dental implant. Each of the visits is at least six months apart. So when you are looking at dentists abroad you must take into consideration that you must travel there twice and each stay should be for about four nights.

Complications DO OCCUR no matter how good the dentist is no matter how hard they try to make sure they don’t, it just happens. Now if you came to us here at HappyDental, had the implant fitted, we checked it for 48 hours for possible problems or infection we will send you on your way. Now say you don’t keep taking the antibiotics we have prescribed or something happens to the implant, say you have an accident. You have to come all the way back to us because NO dentist in the UK will touch our work as no dentist will touch the work of any other dentist in most cases.

As a patient you need to be aware of these potential pit falls. As a dental practice we will do all we can to inform you of the possible problems. Dentistry abroad is growing as is most medical procedures. You need to take into cosnideration all the potential problems that can occur.

What needs to happen is dentists in the UK need to realise that patients want dental care at affordable prices. Here in Romania we offer our patients general dental work at reasonable costs for the local economy levels which compared to UK prices are extremely cheap while in the UK 80% of dentists over charge for their services in comparison to the local economy.

What will happen in the future is foreign dentist like myself will set up practices in the UK and compete hard with UK based dentists. So maybe the future of patients travelling abroad will change to dentists travelling to the patients.

I am the first dentist in Romania who is qualified to provide patients Lumineers. I have been a dentist in Romania for 10 years. I created my first practice which is has now grown to 3 surgeries  and I have recently opened a new dental practice in Gorneti where I have one surgery. I currently employ 3 other dentists and I am looking for a fourth. Later this year I hope to open another dental practice here in Romania followed by my first one overseas in the UK where I am a GDC Approved dentist as well.
