Don’t Buy Same Day Dentures Until you Read This

Alrighty then. Let me make absolutely sure that I understand your situation. You’ve lost your dentures and now you’re trying to dind a dentist that will provide same day dentures for you without charging you a huge amount of money. Am I right? Well, let me ask you a quick question. If you could possibly save as much as 50-60% off on the cost of those new dentures, would you consider putting it off for one to three days? Let me explain how you can do this.

The first thing that you’ll need to do is find a dentist in your area that accepts what are known as Discount Dental Plans. Not dental insurance, but a discount card that just might save you big bucks! All that you need to do after you’ve found a participating dentist is pay the low cost annual fee and then wait one to three days for your membership information. After you’ve done this you’ll be able to get your new dentures asap!

Here’s an example from Anahiem, California, zip code 92812 which is in Orange County. This is really easy to understand.

We’ve found a plan in this area that has 858 participating providers within a 50 mile radius of this zip cose, so finding a participating dentist will not be a problem.

The usual cost of an upper denture, according to a national survey conducted in the year 2005 is 52.00, however, with the Discount Dental Plan that we’ve found you will only have to pay 0.00. That’s an incredible savings of 2.00!

The low annual fee for joining this plan is only 9.95 for an individual or 9.95 for the whole family. Deduct 9.95 from the 2.00 that you’ve already saved and you’re still way ahead with a savings of 2.05 or 2.05 if you’re single.

Also, this is only showing savings for one visit. You’ll still be able to see your new dentist as many times as you’d like for the next full year! The savings can be enormous, especially if you have a family.

So if you’re in need of dentures and you really wanted to go the same day dentures route, you might want to think twice before you end up paying full price. Check out how a Discount Dental Plan can save you money right away!

However, when it comes to removable prosthetics, I am quite qualified to give my own professional opinion. I am not saying what Dr. Ballard is doing is wrong, but I am not comfortable with doing this kind of denture myself, as the potential for small errors to be incorporated into the fit and the bite is too large for me to be able to stand behind my work.

Oh, and that is a Star Wars AND Star Trek mash-up video. I favorited it because it is hilarious.

Their cases usually have teeth set outside functional limits because lab techs would rather blow the function of a case than spend time grinding teeth on an individual with large ridges. The only thing we part out to labs is metal work on partials and implant bars, because we are not set up or trained for it, everything else, we like to have control over.

So no, I am not a doctor, and if Dr. Ballard were talking about root canals or complex extractions, I would not have an opinion.

I’m up in Canada. I am not a dentist, I’m a denturist. Our schooling is 2 years, plus a 2 year practicum before we’re licensed, and I have already made more dentures than most dentists make in their careers. There are still some holdout dentists who make dentures, and some of them are very good. But by and large, they take impressions and take a bite, then ship everything to a lab.

really? where is your office located? a dentist at age 26? wow? are you a freak of nature smartie pants…you must have gone to a super fast school? maby you just work at a dentist office? either way…WHO THE HECK ARE YOU to question a profesional that obviously is qualified……

    ps: nice star wars page….lol

Good point, quality of dentures has much more to do with the skill of the practitioner than the speed with which they are made. I have done a couple emergency dentures in a couple of days, but I still do all my appointments, just a compressed time frame. We do them very seldom because it means having to clear more time out of your schedule. Say somebody wants dentures right before going on vacation, I generally do a quick fix to get them through and start treatment when they return.

perms next year but the dentist and denturist (did I spell that right?) did such a good job on the look of my immediates that I might just tell them I want my perms to look like that, too, when it comes time. But, anyway, not ALL “Affordable Denture” places are bad, but the ones that ARE give the good ones a bad rep and make people un-necessarily wary of them.

(cont from previous) …while some “Affordable Dentures” are wonderful places and really know what they’re doing. I went to one such place in Spokane, Washington for my dentures; full set, “Affordable Dentures” in the Spokane Valley and I have nothing but good to say about that place. My teeth, even though they are my immediates and I don’t get my permanent dentures until a year from now, fit so well and look so good. I get “design” my (cont again…sorry!)

  9. stalkingseverus says:

Each “Affordable Dentures” place is different from the next. Some “Affordable Dentures” are really crappily staffed with poor customer service and lousily made-dentures with the dentist and the techs just thinking about money and rushing the people in and out as fast as possibe… (cont…)

ok. i think a cease fire needs to be called here!

  11. drdballard says:

I never said that I know it all. I never put down denturists or denture technicians. I only said that I did not mislead the public by saying that dentists make dentures. I do know how, and I do oversee the whole process in my office. It does not mean I don’t value my technician and get better dentures because of his experience. Looking at my video again I still see no evidence that I tried to start a turf war here. I’m sure you guys do a great job. I think we are all after the same thing.

  12. drdballard says:

I asked the question and answered the question for my denture services. I cannot speak for everyone who does same day dentures, just like I cannot speak for all dentists. In short, it’s not the process you use (assuming you use a tried and proven process as we do), it’s the abilities, the attention to detail, the experience, and as you have pointed out in your posts the integrity that make a good denture.

  13. drdballard says:

I am not trying to promote the one-day denture industry. I am trying to promote my service. I cannot speak for the quality of every one-day service out there (my denture service is not a franchise). I have fixed a lot of dentures that were done the traditional way by dentists and/or technicians who gave us a bad reputation as well. By the way, 1 hr. photo labs can produce outstanding results with the right equipment and technicians who are well trained and care about their quality too.

  14. trailofdead77 says:

well said that man! dentist think thay know it all because thay did it once 20 years ago!!

  15. krusty36m says:

What I am concerned about, is that there are many one-day service “centers” out there that rip off patients. Then they are left wandering into other labs begging someone to fix them. I suggest you use a good web browser to find “Affordable Dentures Complaint” (perhaps Google). Read all the postings there from dissatisfied patients with one-day dentures. The ONE DAY denture industry degrades our industry to levels that of a “1 hour photo lab”. What’s next, Costco making “kirkland” brand dentures?

  16. drdballard says:

Actually, I think we had to have 10 denture patients and at least the equivalent of 5 sets of dentures, so I disagree with you premise. My comment about dentists making dentures in school was directed the person who commented that dentists don’t know how to make dentures, and that I was misleading the public. I was not trying to put down denturists. Everyone has to make their first denture, and yes of course your product gets better with experience. Oh,and 20+ years of experience is not enough?

  17. krusty36m says:

My reason for commenting on your posting, is that you ask a question and then fail to answer it with a conclusive answer.
In our lab, if a patient wants a denture done in one day we book the one patient for the entire day for the chairside appointments. No other patients are booked for that day. At the end of that day, the denture is processed and cured OVER-NIGHT for eight hours. The patient returns the following morning for the new dentures.. Cont’d.

  18. krusty36m says:

Yes, you and pretty much the majority of the denture making industry use this technique because it is the quickest and easiest way to transfer the occlusal record into the new set.
This technique is nothing new. Where I take concern with is that your posting asks ”
Same-day Dentures Can’t Be Good Dentures Right?”.
My point is, that in most cases shortcuts need to be taken to make dentures using this method. (cont’d)

  19. drdballard says:

Yes sometimes we use the patient’s dentures if the bite is good and the bases are in relatively good condition, extensions are good etc. It is the best custom tray you could find. We have even border molded them if the extensions were not good.
In other cases we have to start form the beginning with alginate impressions, and yes, most times we get them done in a day, and yes they look good and they last. We have been doing it this way now for 6 years a stated earlier, and it works.

  20. drdballard says:

I never claimed that our dentures don’t break. I said that we don’t have trouble with them breaking, and by that I meant that they don’t break or lose teeth anymore than when I was having a very good technician with more than 50 years of experience do my dentures over with 4 appointments over a months time. In either case, they did not break or lost teeth very infrequently.

  21. krusty36m says:

    So, let me guess.
You take the impressions using the patient’s existing dentures, pour up directly into the impressions and mount the bite using the existing dentures right? Then you set up and try in about an hour later, process in four hours trim/polish in one hour or less and “boom” deliver the dentures at the end of the day right? I would think you are probably using a 20 minute curing acrylic, or a four hour process on regular acrylic. Am I right?

  22. krusty36m says:

Any technician who claims that his dentures don’t EVER break is full of beans. Acrylic dentures Break, teeth pop off a denture no matter if the acrylic is made from cheap acrylic or even Lucitone 199 or Ivoclar acrylic. They break, patients take them home and put them through extreme stress loads. They break, don’t lie to people sir. I have been making dentures since 1990, and come from a family of four Denturists. I have MADE OVER 1000 dentures without the help of a technician.

  23. krusty36m says:

Yes well I made an upside-down cake in home-economics class in High school twenty five years ago. It doesn’t make me a chef now does it?

I remember making dentures while in dental school, fifteen years ago. And they weren’t anywhere near the quality I make now. Just because a dentist makes a set of dentures in College doesn’t mean he can make a set of dentures now. (Especially in One day). A denturist makes dentures every day, for the entire length of his/her career.

  24. drdballard says:

I agree that the ideal cure for acrylic is several hours, but the proper techniques, a good fitting durable custom made denture can be made in and 8 our period.
So if shortcuts mean doing things in the most efficient way possible and shortening the time period, yes we take shortcuts. If shortcuts means reducing the quality of our dentures in a measurable way that affects how our dentures fit, function or look, I have to respectfully disagree.
