Question by Super Shane 64: How long does the “whitening” toothpaste take to whiten teeth?
i want my teeth to be whiter, and I wanted to know how long the toothpaste with whitening on the label takes to actually whiten teeth. is there a best brand? or is there a faster way (i’d rather not get surgery). thank you
I don’t want shining white teeth, i know that would take a long time, I just want to go from whitish yellow to normal white. thanks
can you include how long your recommendation takes to notice a color difference, thanks

I don’t feel that they whiten very well. The best way to go is professional whitening and then use the toothpaste to keep them white.

Nowadays, almost all the teeth whitening products offer a certain degrees of whitening effect for a varied price range. However, if you want the best, you might have to spend more than you have thought.

The best teeth whitening products have been categorized into 2 broad types:

In-office teeth whitening
At-home teeth whitening solutions

In-office teeth Whitening Products

The in-office teeth whitening solutions are mainly procedures that involve the use of a bleaching gel (either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide) for teeth whitening. Also known as professional whitening procedure, in-office teeth whitening treatments deliver optimum results within 60 to 90 minutes. These procedures are performed by expert cosmetic dentists and are usually expensive.

There are quite a lot of teeth whitening procedures that are commonly used today, such as:

LaserSmile
Zoom
BriteSmile
LumaArch
Rembrandt Sapphire
Opalesnece

There are many other similar options that can be tried. These procedures also involve the use of a light that is illuminated to activate the procedure and to make the results more effective.

At-Home Teeth Whitening Products

Teeth whitening products are usually the ones that can be used at home without any hassle. This broad category of teeth whitening products includes varied range of items that needs to be chosen according to the reference of the user. Almost all the teeth whitening products produce mild to moderate effects that lasts for a couple of days if it is properly maintained.

You have quite a lot of choices in case of at-home teeth whitening products as these are ready-to-use and available over-the-counter.

The at-home teeth whitening product range includes:

Dentist-dispensed At-home Teeth Whitening Kits: There are many popular brands that product dentist-supervised teeth whitening kits to be used at home. These kits come with a mold or tray and whitening gel that helps in producing whiteness. You can expect professional results using these products.
Whitening Toothpastes: Although toothpastes are often considered ineffective in producing results, it works well if used properly. You must choose the best quality whitening toothpastes that contains peroxide as an active ingredient. Brushing your teeth with whitening toothpaste can give you noticeably whiter teeth color in a few days.
Teeth Whitening Strips: Teeth Whitening strips are fine layers of flexile strops or embraces that have been designed to whiten your teeth. These strips are coated with whitening gel and are convenient t use as well. No mixing, no mess- juts put the strip on your teeth and see the change in color of your teeth.
Brush-on Teeth Whiteners: Teeth whitening pens with brush on whiteners are the best choice for instant whiteness.  You can use it directly after a meal or daily as an alternative to the whitening trays or strips. It is often the chosen because it is more convenient to use.

The options are all effective only if you know how to maintain your teeth. Dental hygiene is the first step to whiteness.

Everyone loves a dazzling, bright smile. And in recent years, a great deal of focus has been placed not only on the ideal shape and uniformity of our teeth, but also their color. But how do I know which are the best teeth whiteners to use at home? No problem! Read on for the latest and most up to date information.

No matter how healthy your teeth may seem, discolored or stained teeth can make you feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. There are various causes of tooth discoloration; it can be caused by medication such as antibiotics or an excessive intake of fluoride. But the most common contributing factor to stained teeth is usually attributed to the daily onslaught of coffee, soft drinks, nicotine, alcohol and food. Over time, the surface enamel begins to crack and erode, causing stains and discoloration as the food matter lodges in these cracks.

The obvious solution to this problem is a teeth whitening treatment, and there are several brands available on the market, employing different techniques. It can be somewhat confusing when deciding which of these methods is best suited to your needs. In this article we will discuss the best teeth whiteners to use at home.

How does Teeth Whitening work?

The whitening process uses peroxide to bleach discoloration and stains. Enamel is the first layer of the tooth surface and is actually semi-translucent. The layer underneath the enamel is known as dentin. Dentin has a slight color of yellow to it in its natural form. In order to whiten the dentin, a peroxide solution is placed on the enamel. The solution will then bleach the dentin, resulting in whiter teeth. As the teeth are bleached, the stained teeth will generally lighten four to five shades, depending upon how severely the teeth are stained or discolored.

At-Home Teeth Whitening Techniques

Cosmetic dentists offer several whitening procedures, which may be quite costly. For example: applying bleaching gel to the teeth in conjunction with laser treatment to accelerate the tooth whitening process. This procedure is rather expensive, so most people opt for more economical and convenient “at-home” teeth whitening procedures. So let us list some of the best teeth whiteners you can use at home.

At-Home Teeth Whitening Systems

There are several types of teeth whitening products available for use at home, including teeth whitening pastes, bleaching solutions and “paint-on” tooth whitening gels.

Bleaching solutions in a mouthguard: These products contain carbamide peroxides, which bleach the tooth enamel. The bleaching agent is placed in a mouthguard (tray), usually form-fitted by your dentist, and can be used at home, usually overnight over a period of 1-2 weeks. This method can be somewhat uncomfortable because of the tray which is placed in the mouth.

Teeth whitening pastes: All toothpastes help remove surface stains to some degree by using abrasives. Unlike bleaches, these products do not alter the pigmentation of the teeth. A further drawback is that with excessive use, these abrasive whitening pastes may wear away the tooth enamel. This product is not recommended for teeth whitening.

Paint-on teeth whitening gel: As opposed to tray-based or whitening strip methodology, paint-on teeth whitening gel is painted directly onto the tooth surface with a special applicator. The instructions for paint-on products usually suggest that the surface of the teeth should be clean and dry. This improves the adherence of the bleaching gel to teeth for better results. This system does work well.

Teeth whitening strips: With this technique a plastic strip coated with a bleaching agent is placed on the surface of the teeth. The bleaching agent is adhesive and holds the strip in place. This system works very well. The excellent results and the low cost makes this system one of the most popular of the best teeth whiteners.

Take note that it may take several treatments to achieve the desired effect as results will vary, depending on the severity of the stains or discoloration. When choosing a teeth whitening product, consider which whitening system is most compatible with your lifestyle and budget. Selecting the system you find the easiest to apply could very well be the best personal choice.
