Question by skovol_007: How many of you have conquered a dental phobia? How many are still afraid?
I have made great strides. A fw years ago, if you even said the word “dentist”, i would turn pale and quicly change the subject. Today, I can explain the steps of a root canal or getting a tooth capped without getting sick. I still get a little nervous when I have to go, but have gotten much better. Having found a good-no, GREAT- dentist has helped. (not to mention that wonderful laughing gas!)

This may sound weird, but I am afraid of the novacaine, not the shot but the numbness. I’m not sure why but it terrifies me to be numb. I have been able to get past it if I really need to. You are right, it makes all the difference if you feel comfortable with your dentist.

I’ve never had a dental phobia myself, but I am a dental assistant and work with many apprehensive patients. First thing to know, is that SO MANY people have dental phobias. You MUST find a dentist that makes you comfortable. Most dental phobias start from prior trauma at the dentist. The horror stories i hear are unbelieveable. People who;s doctor have held them down during treatment, yelling, and just making the patient deal with the pain. This screws the patient up for life unless the patient finds a dentist who is patient enough to help a dental phobe. Our practice is wonderful with all patients and our number one goal is to make sure the patient has a good experience. If a child refuses treatment, we wont work. Forcing a child or anyone for that matter to have work done is where trauma begins. Patient dentists are the best thing for any dental phobe

I hate going to the dentist! I hated them, I hate them, and I will always hate them:(. They poke too hard, spray water in my face, and ask me questions with my mouth wide open
