Replacing Missing Teeth Solutions
Missing teeth – a common problem faced by many patients who have undergone removal of teeth due to extensive dental caries, periodontal disease and injury. Some people have teeth which do not develop at all because of genetic predisposition.
The three most common way to replace one or more missing teeth:
- to set the bridge,
-implant or
- removable partial denture (PD).
Bridges or dental implants are more comfortable and attractive than removable PD, however, they also have certain disadvantages. This is their much higher cost, which makes this treatment option available for some patients. In some cases, a partial denture is the best or the only acceptable means of therapy.
Normal PD consists of a metal base and attached with acrylic teeth. Removable PD fixed with metal Klammer, which represent ankyroid structure. Despite some awkwardness of a PD, it is successfully used in dentistry for decades. Another type of partial denture – acrylic. Sometimes it is called an interim, or temporary removable PD.
At times, this prosthesis is subjected to undeserved criticism from dentists, because it is less durable than a removable PD. But it has some advantages. Provisional removable PD is made for several days and requires only two visits to the dentist. To create a partial denture is required at least a month and about 5 visits to the clinic. This device is lightweight, since its manufacture uses much less metal (usually one or two metal denture clasp), which makes it more convenient and aesthetic. In some cases, I recommend a temporary denture patients, have been replaced teeth in the later stages of life and have never bore removable PD. By devices of this kind is much easier to adjust.
