When the back teeth are biting together and the front teeth fail to overlap vertically the bite is called an open bite. In a proper bite the front upper teeth should overlap by 20% of the height of the lower teeth proving an overbite of 1-3 mm. This misalignment of the teeth between the upper and lower arches is called open bite. Many people have this condition to a certain degree but it’s not serious enough to qualify for a treatment from a dentist.
