Question by doodywae: I’ve just gotten 6 pc Dental Bridge made, How long should it take, I’ve already been to see dentist 10 times?
I went to a new dentist about doing a new bridge. This is not my 1st bridge..but is the first time I have made 8 to10 visits for the same bridge. I had to pay for the bridge as I went along and it is now paid for.The permanent bridge has not yet been permanently fitted yet. I have had problems going Thur this bridge being built & fitted properly. I AM NOT HAPPY! When I was wearing the temporary I had a reaction to the cement or bond as some call it. My gums became red and inflamed and felt slimy. Then 1st permanent bridge was made incorrectly and some of the teeth were to big and some were to small and then some of the teeth were very small & to short, also the eye tooth and the front tooth next to eye tooth is so thick on the back side of teeth he says is for support and there is a gap between top of enamel and gum. Some teeth did not come up to the gum line, so then the next 2 or 3 times I went back the lab guy came up and made some adjustments to the bridge “i’ve never had to meet with the lab guy before” i thought it odd, maybe i’m wrong i don’t know, but this is not my 1st bridge. I have told the dentist several times now that I’m not happy with the bridge or shortness of the teeth. The front tooth enamel does not come up far enough to the gum and there is a little dark colored line around top edge of tooth, showing where it does not fit up against the gum line, “maybe this is called the margin” i don’t know, inside next to tongue on two teeth the enamel does not come up as far to the gum as I have had on my previous bridges. When I try to eat on that side my gums sorta feel as if they are getting raw and irritated. So I went back to dentist last week and he say my gums feel this way this time because the bridge is moving and he needs to do temporary re-cement again for another 30 days and then if gums are cleared up he will permanently cement the bridge in next time. What can i do? I have paid him almost $ 7000 and I just want to cry about this. Should I go to a few more dentist and ask their opinions? This guy has been a dentist for 28 years and is an implant Specialist. When I bring up an objection he say he been dentist 28 yrs and knows best. He is very very happy with the work he has done. I am NOT HAPPY! This is lot of money and once he cements the bridge in (its going to be there for long time). I don’t know what to do. He is happy with his work and already has his money and if my gums are not red and inflamed he wants to permanently cement the bridge next month. What do I do? I didn’t want the front tooth beside the eye tooth included in the bridge but he said it would be better to do the front tooth with the bridge to help make stronger. I wanted a single cap on the front tooth. I wanted it to look natural and I just want to cry and cry about it. What should I do before he cements this bridge in permanently? I am grinding my teeth and he has already made a mouth guard BUT I am still grinding my teeth and I am constantly pushing against this new bridge. Please some body help me go about this in the right direction before its to late. Thank you in advance.

I bought Listerine Pre Brush Whitening 3 months ago, and there has been little to no difference to my teeth?

Question by lon_usa2003: I bought Listerine Pre Brush Whitening 3 months ago, and there has been little to no difference to my teeth?
I used it twice a day following the instructions, using it before I brush in the morning and at night. Not only this, but the toothpaste I used was and still using it is Crest 3D white toothpaste. NONE OF THIS STUFF WORKS. You can feel the difference using this toothpaste, but the results show nothing. They say guaranteed whitening in 8 days, and thats total BS.
As for the Listerine thats fake, does not work.

So I’m deciding on spending $ 40 for the whitening strips by either Listerine/Crest, the so called “Advance 3D protection whitening” whatever.

Should I get it, or will this be a waste? I just want something that can whitened my teeth, is that too much to ask.

Answer by RDH
Anything over the counter, be it the white strips, the mouthwash, the trays, etc, have a low concentration (~5%) of bleach/whitening solution. No matter what you use over the counter you may get only 1-2 shades lighter. Most people don’t notice much of a difference, but if you want a to lighten up a little it’s great. Otherwise, I suggest saving the $ 40-60 and put it toward professional zoom whitening or custom fit trays with very concentrated bleach (23%) and you’ll get 7-9 shades lighter.

We all want the best smile, since a good healthy smile is of prime importance to all. A smile speaks volumes about a person and therefore more and more people are becoming conscious of the teeth whitening procedures. The stains on your teeth can denote whether you smoke or whether you practise good dental hygiene. While making an impression, your smile can tell a lot about your qualities, which is why it is important to have whiter teeth.

Teeth whitening procedures are usually done at the dentist’s office and often cost a lot of money, however there are online teeth whitening kits which make it possible for you to do the same procedures at home. Apart from getting a brighter smile, there are some other health benefits attached to these teeth whitening processes. We have listed down health related reasons which encourage you to consider teeth whitening.

Teeth Whitening Can Prevent Teeth Erosion

People consume a lot of harmful beverages such as coffee, soda or wine and therefore, with time, the teeth enamel is eroded. The enamel is the outer protective layer on the teeth and is responsible for protecting it from harmful things. At the time when the enamel starts eroding, you would experience extreme sensitivity in your mouth when you drink hot or cold drinks. The sensation keeps getting worse with further erosion. When you get teeth whitening done, it would eliminate all the bacteria that cause erosion. With frequent teeth whitening sessions, the enamel would be strengthened as well.

Save On the Dentist Fees

Formerly, teeth whitening procedures could only be done in the doctor’s office. It would typically cost a few hundred dollars to get the teeth whitening done, however you can now buy teeth whitening products and perform the treatment yourself. Teeth whitening products are very easy to use and can be done anywhere, in accordance to your preference. As opposed to the dentist fees, these products are highly cost effective and you can get them from any of the major pharmacies.

You Won’t Have To Wear Dental Bonds

As soon as people get old, they start experiencing teeth discoloration and stains, therefore a lot of people are inclined to wear dental bonds. These dental bonds are to be worn on your existing teeth, so that the teeth look whiter than they actually are. With the later advancements in dentistry, no one wears these bonds today, but they were pretty common before a few years. Teeth whitening products have to be applied ones while they provide longer lasting benefits. On the other hand, the dental bonds are highly expensive.

To conclude with, as mentioned above, teeth whitening have more benefits than just getting brighter, whiter teeth. You can try any of the online teeth whitening kits and get started yourself to witness the results within a few sessions. In addition, there is a lot of information on the internet which would help you learn about the numerous teeth whitening procedures and products.

Sedation Dentistry For An Anxiety-free Dental Experience

Healthy teeth are not the only concern people have with their mouth, says Marietta, GA dentist. Whiter teeth have become very desirable, and more and more people want to know what method to use.  Adults and teens alike wonder where their teeth stand on color. Dentists have an in-office color scale that compares teeth.  However, if a visit to the dentist is not possible, a do-it-at-home test can be done.  Compare your teeth to the white of your eyes.  If your teeth are darker, perhaps it is time to look for a product to whiten your teeth.

People are genetically programmed with different colors of teeth, but whitening can lighten the color for the better.  As a person ages, teeth begin to darken and naturally change color.  Stains appear in a multitude of colors.  The colors can range from yellow and brown to black, gray and even pink.  Since natural tooth color is genetic, many family members have the same base shade.  Teeth whitening lightens natural shades and can rid the teeth of discoloration from many stains.

Trauma to a tooth can change the color of a tooth.  This condition requires a visit to the dentist, as it is likely that the internal, nerve portion of the tooth may have been damaged and need attention.  In some instances, after a traumatized tooth has been treated, the inside of the tooth can be treated with a whitening agent, reverting the tooth back to a more natural, lighter color.

Many products are available for people to whiten their teeth, and some are better than others.  Whitening strips can be quite effective, as they are gentle on your teeth.  Toothpaste and mouthwashes are not as effective, because they do not stay in contact with your teeth to work as well as other techniques. Gels can be used in conjunction with a mouth tray, allowing your teeth to soak in solution.  Although harsher, it has a longer effect.  Other methods are laser bleaching and bleaching pens.  Some only whiten the surface of the teeth, and others actually penetrate the teeth and have the ability to whiten deeper stains.  A chemical beaching product must be present to remove deep stains.  The effects of teeth whitening is seldom permanent, and younger people usually have longer effects.

Other methods other than bleaching and whitening agents are available to lighten your teeth. Composite resin (filling material) can be bonded to the front of your tooth to lighten the color.  Veneer, a shell-like porcelain facing can be attached to the front of your tooth in a lighter shade. Although both methods work well, they are more expensive and invasive to your teeth.  A dentist can help you decide what method is best for you.

Tips and Warnings

Teeth whitening  can be difficult for some people, as gum recession can expose parts of your teeth that are too sensitive to bleach
Cracked teeth may also be too sensitive to bleach
Find a whitening product with the American Dental Association’s seal of approval
Brush and floss your teeth well before whitening
Follow directions to avoid unwanted damage to your teeth and gum

Once teeth have been whitened, stains can reappear. Many stains can be removed during a standard cleaning at the dentist office.   Coffee, cigarette smoking, tea, soda and red wines bond more readily to teeth after whitening. Eventually teeth return to their natural shade, so occasional whitening may be a necessary touch-up.  If you are looking to whiten your teeth, you are not alone, says teeth whitening Marietta, GA dentist.

Going to the dentist shouldn’t be a stressful experience, yet many people dread the thought of undergoing a lengthy dental procedure which in turn leads to an evasion of the dentist all together. Avoiding routine check ups and cleanings can have serious consequences on your oral health and general well being. Fortunately, many dentists are trained to administer sedatives- medications designed to help a patient relax while feeling little to no pain- a safe and effective practice known as sedation dentistry.

If the thought of undergoing extensive dental work makes you squirm, you may need to ask your dentist about sedation dentistry. Sedation can be a highly effective method for helping fearful patients relax so that they can receive the necessary dental work, without pain or anxiety. Keep reading to learn more about sedation dentistry.

Safe and Effective Sedation Dentistry for Painless Treatment

Sedation dentistry refers to the process of establishing a relaxed, calm state during a dental treatment through the use of sedatives. Sedation is an ideal solution for fearful patients or extensive treatments that would otherwise require multiple appointments. Different sedatives vary in degrees of relaxation. Conscious sedation involves administering a sedative, such as nitrous oxide or light oral sedation, while the patient is alert and awake to reach a state of light relaxation.

For severe cases of dental phobia, it’s possible for a patient to undergo a major dental procedure and remember very little of it with the help of an anesthesiologist. The type of sedative a patient can receive will depend on the anesthesiologist’s discretion, the patient’s degree of anxiety and the extent of the procedure.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Patients suffering from dental phobia are often hesitant to undergo long or complex dental procedures as they aren’t sure whether they can withstand long periods of time in the dental chair. With sedation dentistry, however, patients can endure the smile makeover they’ve always wanted. This is due in part to the fact that sedatives make long procedures seem like only a few minutes, leaving the patient in a relaxed, and anxiety-free state while the dentist is free to perform the procedure with ease. Appointments that would generally require multiple visits can often be performed in just one due to the patients increased cooperation.

And since sedation dentistry helps reduce many fears experienced by anxious patients, patients are more likely to go to the dentist for routine care and other treatments once they understand the ease in which a treatment can be performed under the use of sedatives.

Don’t let your dental phobia jeopardize your dental health any longer. If you avoid dental treatments, you are compromising the functionality, appearance and health of your smile. Sedation dentistry from your Ottawa sedation dentist may be the perfect solution for helping you achieve your dream smile, putting you at ease and reducing the pain associated with dental procedures.

Dr. Leila Ebrahimpoor is an experienced cosmetic and sedation dentist in Ottawa. With a focus on quality care and comfort, this Ottawa dentist offers a variety of dental treatments including, dental implants, tooth whitening and veneers among many other smile-enhancing cosmetic procedures.

Know All About Dental Implants

Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements that are surgically implanted in the jawbone to act as roots of teeth. These implants are used to counter loss of teeth caused by:

Tooth decay

Trauma to the mouth

Gum diseases (such as periodontitis)

Root canal failure

Hereditary defects

Extreme wear and tear

Need For Dental Implants

Tooth loss might make people self-conscious and they might:

Hesitate to smile and laugh, which could severely affect their social life and self confidence.

Face problems in chewing, which could affect their eating habits and lead to health issues such as malnutrition.

Dental implants are a simple remedy to all problems associated with tooth loss.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Traditionally, bridges were used to replace a lost tooth with the support of neighboring teeth. However, this process caused more harm than good and seemed unnatural. In contrast, dental implants feel and look natural and help replace multiple teeth without pressurizing the bordering teeth. Also, it is impossible for anyone to detect that yours is an artificial tooth. Apart from these, dental implants offer the following advantages:

Are stronger and more durable than other dental restorative tools such as bridges and dentures.

These offer a permanent solution to tooth loss.

Since these can support bridges, the need for removable partial denture is eliminated.

These support dentures. As a result, dentures can be secured in a better manner without causing discomfort.

For maximum effectiveness, dental implants can be combined with other tooth restorative procedures. For example, dental implants can be used to support a dental bridge for the replacement of multiple missing teeth. In addition, the use of dental implants with dentures can help enhance the stability of artificial tooth and reduce irritation in the gum tissue.

Higher success rate as compared to bridges and dentures, and are the best option for replacing lost tooth.
