I have 2 boys, ages 4 & 2. They are very curious children, and they like to ask people questions. I usually let them, but recently I had someone snap at me for not stopping them, telling me that it was very rude. We were at the dentist, and there was a girl, around 8, in a wheelchair. Our 4 yr old thought the chair was the coolest thing, and asked the girl why she got to sit in a cool chair. The girl was about to answer, when her mom got upset and started criticizing me for having an “insensitive child”
Personally, I don’t think it is wrong. He was merely curious, and I think it would only cause trouble to pull him away from someone that is different as if they were diseased. I let him talk to her, because I think it is great that he just thought of her as a girl in a cool chair…
I am trying to teach my boys to treat all people equally, and I think that for the most part they do. Is it wrong to allow them to ask questions when someone is different?

no its not wrong. thats how kids learn by asking questions. and i dont find anything wrong w/ the incident you used as and example. the mother overreacted, but maybe most children arnt usually so forgiving of her daughters dissability so she has become deffensive
