The Care and Keeping of Veneers

When making the decision to get porcelain veneers Orange county residents are often concerned whether or not they can maintain them. Although veneers are very strong, there are several things one can do so they last as long as possible. Any Orange County implant dentist will say that good oral hygiene is very important whether or not porcelain veneers are in place.

However, replacing veneers is costly so it is important to pay extra attention to maintaining them properly. Brushing one’s teeth twice a day, rinsing with mouth wash, and flossing are three basic things which will help keep the teeth and veneers clean. Gum disease will occur just as easily if a person has porcelain veneers, possibly more so. Inflamed gums can recede to the point where the uncovered portion of the teeth as well as the top edge of the dental veneers will show. This will be very noticeable to others. In addition, bi-yearly cleanings will enable the dentist to check the veneers as well as clean the teeth and gums. Porcelain veneers can be worn down or broken if one does not take care to avoid extremely hard foods. Eating hard candy or nail biting can lead to costly damages to the veneers.

Bruxism, the scientific term for teeth clenching and grinding on a regular basis, can be very damaging on veneers. This can happen consciously during the day or unconsciously while sleeping. People grind their teeth for many reasons. Many doctors think that people grind their teeth because of stress. On the other hand, many dentists believe that it happens because the teeth are not properly aligned with each other. Teeth grinding is not considered a major health issue but over time it can lead to many problems. A person can grind their teeth for quite awhile until serious symptoms arise, but they will eventually come if left untreated. Wearing of the teeth, tooth sensitivity, and broken dental restorations are telltale indicators of bruxism. Most of the time people don’t even know they grind their teeth until a roommate or spouse tells them so. Bruxism cures depend on what the dentist believes to be the root cause of the habit. If the dentist thinks that the grinding is a result of stress, he or she will probably refer the patient to someone who can help them with stress relief. If the problem is determined to be due to the teeth alignment, he or she will probably fit the patient for a mouth night guard. There are many mouth guards which can be found in a pharmacy or supermarket, but many of these are ill-fitting and do not solve the problem. It is usually easier to visit a dentist to get fitted for one. This may cost a little more money but will last longer and will fit better than a store-bought mouth guard. With a simple visit to the dentist Orange County residents can learn about their condition and discuss treatment to prevent further damage!

Taking care of implants or veneers is very important. Improper care can lead to costly damages. Orange County dental implants or veneers are sturdy but still require proper care and maintenance.
